Is it possible to see God in the in-between places of our life?
(Updated 4/3/23)
Sometimes the in-between places feel the most unsettling.
The places of transition.
The shift from what once was, to what will be.
The in-between place.
Like what am I supposed to do now?
Or what am I supposed to do next?
The in-between places sometimes feel like you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place…unable to go back nor able to move forward. But let me encourage you today, the in-between place just maybe holy ground.
God in the in-between place
Think about the story of Moses when he encountered God at the burning bush.
Exodus 3:4-5 says, “When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
You see, Moses was in the in-between place. Both literally and spiritually. After leaving Egypt for fear of his life, he traveled far away and ended up in Midian.
For Moses, Midian was the place between the enslavement of the Israelites and what God would call him to do in order to set his people free.
The encouragement is this, Moses met God in the in-between place.
In the in-between place, God spoke to Moses.
In the in-between place, Moses received His calling.
And in the in-between place, Moses received His purpose.
Now, we can look at Jesus.
We look at Jesus in how he found himself in the in-between.
The time in-between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, what we call Holy Week.
The space of time in-between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.
All challenging times.
Undeniably excruciating for our Savior.
But the in-between place proved to be holy ground.
A place of preparation.
A place that made a way for what was to come.
The in-between was a place where our latter would become our greater.
So, today if you are in the in-between place. If you’ve found this season to be hard, awkward, uncertain, and a little scary because of the unknown. Know that you just may be on holy ground.
This just may be an opportunity to experience God in a fresh and new way. And to be still and hear what the Lord is speaking to you.
May we see God in the in-between places.
May we see the in-between place as holy ground.
